Theos Immunisations
December 3rd, 2009
Theo was 2 months old and had to go for his first set of immunisation this was to protect him from DTap/IPV/Hib and PCV (Diphtheria, Tetanus, acellular Pertussis (Whooping cough), Inactivated Polio Vaccine, Haemophilus influenzae b (Hib) and Pneumococcal) although this sounds alot there are only two injections one in each leg.
I was very nervous as I don't like needles myself but my doctor was lovely and reassured me many mums felt the same way , she explained what she was going to do and what needles were for what immunisation of course although awake Theo had no idea what was coming , so the first needle was done Theo cried a little but was soon ok the second needle was done and the same happened , plasters were placed and that was it all over with , the doctor explain the common
side affects, high temperature a little rash around were the needles were inserted and just a unhappy baby but not to worry I could if needed give him half a spoonful of Calpol , That night I was ready to be awake for the whole night with a very moody baby but the unbelievable happened Theo slept all the way through the night I was so pleased with my little man .
The next set of immunisations were when Theo was 3 months these were for DTaP/IPV/Hib and Men C ( the same as the month before but instead of the Pneumococcal it was Meningaccocal C) , and again two injections,
I wasn't as nervous this time as I knew what was coming except this time Theo had them done with the nurse , the same procedure, she explain what they were and what was going to happen and the side affects that could happen and with in 3 minutes both injections were done Theo hardly flinched at these ones , he must have been feeling brave this time round
, So the night time came and yet again no problem slept straight through the night .
Theo had hes third set of immunisations just the other day now this consists of 3 injections two in one leg and one in the other I wasn't looking forward to these although they are only boosters for the immunisations hes already had 3 at once I thought was 1, going to be painful and 2 definitely going to make him an unhappy bunny at night , yet again these injections happened with the nurse same procceedure except Theo didnt feel as brave this time and did cry but soon stopped after a little cuddle , the night time came and Theo was fast asleep straight through the night ,
Of course all babies are different and will be affected in different ways. Me, well I guess I was just lucky but mummy's don't panic! high temperatures, little rashes around were the needle was inserted and grumpy little girls or boys are very minor problems only contact your doctor if your baby cries for hours or the rash on the leg gets bigger that a 10p coin .
Theos next immunisations are when hes 12 months old so we have a break for now , but I will post my experience for that set as well. Fingers crossed my lucky streak sticks
I'd love to hear your experience's so please leave a comment
